Compass Workshop 2023
Our 2023 Compass workshop was held November 3-5. Students arrived on the evening of Friday, November 3 for a welcome dinner. Over the next two days, students participated in five intensive seminar discussions that were led by Princeton graduate students. They also participated in three networking and mentoring sessions. Each of these sessions featured a question and answer panel with our faculty mentors--they were titled: "Applying to graduate school," "Being a minority in philosophy," and "Being a professional philosopher."
The theme of this year's workshop was "The Epistemological Dimensions of Oppression." You can find the workshop reading list below. This year, our faculty mentors were Sukaina Hirji (University of Pennsylvania), Sherry Kao (Georgetown University), Désirée Lim (Pennsylvania State University), and Darien Pollock (Boston University). A huge thank you to our faculty mentors for helping make this year's Compass workshop a success! 2023 Readings Charles Mills (2007) - "White Ignorance" Briana Toole (2022) - "Demarginalizing Standpoint Epistemology" Lidal Dror (2022) - "Is There an Epistemic Advantage to Being Oppressed?"
